About

A view of the hidden parts around the inner sections around the city centre of Manchester UK and beyond. How you perceive these derelict sites could be a sort of morbid fascination, or logically analysing the modes and functionally of the remaining fragments of architecture. This blog is the stage 1 of 'Urban Exploration' but I have to emphasise, if you visit these places and tempted to gain access..I wouldnt advise it unless you seek permission from the appropriate authorities.

Dexine Rubber Company Rochdale

Former site of the Dexine Rubber Company on Spotland Bridge Works...
Is located in the north east section of the Spotland Bridge Conservation Area and
covers approximately 1.5ha. The site is enclosed by Spotland Road to the north,
Primrose Street to the east, Holmes Street and Spodden Street to the south and the
River Spodden to the west. The site has been vacant for several years.
Various buildings are present on the site of various ages and types. These buildings
reflect the site's historical development and its former uses. Much of the site has,
however, been cleared, and the only buildings of interest are the two-storey red brick
Spotland New Mill and the brick chimney. The mill was constructed as a woollen mill
during the 1870s and it was part of a number of mills which occupied this general
area on the eastern bank of the River Spodden. Adjacent to the main mill building
lies the octagonal chimney which is non-designated heritage asset. The chimney is
some 40 metres high that was demolished in 2017...
