This former tannery was built around 1860, it has been mentioned that the site where the building is situated could even be earlier. Most of the site has been completely demolished, at one time this could have covered a wider area.[There was a larger tannery based in Littleborough at Atlas Mills which was owned by Adler & Oppenheimer AG, which was founded in Strasbourg..but had a site in Littleborough..it was known as the 'ark' as few Jewish people went over to the plant in Littleborough to escape the oncoming Holocaust..it was known as the Schindler's, but instead nestled among the Pennine hills?
Examples of the machinery used in the preparation process
There was an even deeper drop, I need a rope to gain access, I will update when I can access this section in full
