Fire crews were called to a blaze at a commercial building on Townley Street near the town centre at around 8.45pm on the 30th December 2021..All of the three floors of the mill were alight when the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service arrived, and eight fire engines attended the scene.
Built in the mid-1800s, the mill buildings had been used as a silk weaving, cotton weaving, and a cloth dying mill over the years. The building fell into disrepair in the early-2000s.
Lodge Mill taken in 2019
Lodge Mill : went there this time along with Martin Zero and James...we carried out a full explore
later we also visited an arts complex and café bar called the 'Engine House' which is located within the once derelict engine room next door to the mill.
Images taken from the roof of the former engine section..
We also gained access into the precarious lift tower, which at the time looked almost inaccessible..
Most of the wooden floors were dangerous as a result of the fire back in early 2022..
The term out of the ashes comes to mind..
